2002 FAIPS Triumphs in Closest BIT Ever!
***********************************************************
KDL Comes Season Comes to a Exciting
Close With FAIPS Tournament Victory.
The Kuwait Debate League (KDL) season came to a dramatic conclusion as The Fahaheel Wataniyeh Indian Private School (FAIPS) claimed its first national debate
championship. In doing so, it defeated defending champions Al-Bayan Bilingual School (BBS) in a tough final match fought at BBS, the KDL's sponsor school.
The Indian Community School of Salmiya participated its first debate tournament. Its one squad of Sara Isaacs and Dana Mendona won praise for competing in "A" in their first tournament ever.
Gulf English School came in a very close third. GES's A squad of AbdulHameed Al Sayegh and Roshan Jacob came in fourth place among squads while AbdulHameed came in third place among all speakers. Haithem Mohsen of the school's B squad placed fifth among all speakers. GES's varsity maintained the second best regular season award.

BBS came in a very close second in almost everything. BBS's A squad of Talal Al
Rashoud and Hamad Al Essa came in second among all squads. While Hamad claimed the sixth place speaker award, only decimal points prevented Talal from winning the top speaker award. BBS had the best regular season record.

The FAIPS A squad, Anjali Koppal and Anirudh Vemprala, needed to win on just one of two judges ballots in order to claim victory. They did this, splitting the ballots with BBS with a plan involving the genetic modification of foods. Anjali emerged as the best speaker in the tournament while her partner, Anirudh, claimed the fourth place speaker award. Together, the two claimed the top squad award. FAIPS's B squad of Aditya Humad and Gayatri Hegde also claimed third place among all squads while Aditya tied for
a sixth place speaker award.

The final debate match took place in the refined Red Room of Al-Bayan Bilingual School with guests, students, and administrators present from the two schools. Al-Bayan's Director lauded the efforts of debaters and personally awarded and congratulated FAIPS
on their hard-earned triumph.

"This was a very hard season in many ways. Out of the entire League, we only had two returning debaters from last year's tournament and only three returning judges. Yet the level of debating, judging, and general enthusiasm shown by all present involved in this
event was very high. This was a exciting, quality finale, and I can only look forward to next season. Congratulations, on behalf of the League, to FAIPS, the national champions."
