The American National Anthem

The Star Spangled Banner

Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust":
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The United States of America

The United States of America

Political Structure:

United States started as a small colonial where European explorers came in the sixteenth century. The population started to grow by then and the small colonial grew on the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. At that time more immigrants came from different parts of the world causing the economy and population to grow. United States of America is a federal Republic and has a strong democratic tradition. It got its independence on the 4th of July 1776 from Great Britain. It consists of 50 states and one district and its Capital is Washington DC. and George W. Bush is its president since 20th January 2001.

The legal system in the United States is based on the English common law. Laws in the United States are applied to everyone without any favoritism. Laws can be changed but only through a formal established system. As to the federal courts there are 94 federal courts in fifty states and these courts have the jurisdiction to hear only the cases that are allowed by federal law such as crimes and other case. As for the federal judges they work for life except if their dismissal is requested by congressional impeachment. As well as the United States has a Congress which has different representatives that are elected by the people. The congress plays a very important role in the United States government where it passes bills that can be turned into laws. Even though the president of the US shares powers with the congress, but he us the most powerful person in the US where he can stop bills from turning into laws and he also proposes much of the legislation that becomes a law. But together they are actually equal powers.

The United States has good relations with its neighbors Canada as well as Mexico. It has good relations with a lot of different countries where it supplies them with its protection such as Japan where it protects it from China as well as Kuwait where it protects it from Iraqi invasion.

Natural Resources:

The United States is rich with its variety of natural resources such as coal, copper, lead, molybdenum, uranium, phosphates, bauxite, gold, iron, mercury, nickel, potash, silver, tungsten, zinc, petroleum, natural gas and timber. As well as has different natural hazards such as volcanoes in the islands of Hawaii and hurricanes along the Gulf of Mexico as well as tornadoes and mud slides in California.

As for the environment the United States has a lot of air pollution which causes acid rain as well as it faces water pollution from runoff of pesticides and fertilizers into the water. As for the fresh water the US has a very limited amount of fresh water in the western part of the country. And for the climate the climate is temperate in the all of the United States except for some exceptions where the climate is quite tropical in Hawaii and California and Arctic in Alaska. The US has good soil which results in producing good agricultural products from wheat, corn, fruits, vegetables and cotton. All in all the United States is quite rich in its natural resources which give big benefit to the economy where the exports of United States natural resources have reached 53.5 billion dollars.

Cultural Factors:

The US is a home to many nationalities and people which cause the population to grow in amount. The United States population is 278,058,881 and this population is composed of different religions and nationalities. In the US 56% of the religions are Protestant, 28% Roman Catholic, 2% Jewish and 4% are other religions from Muslims and Buddhism and other religions and as for the left 10% they have no religions. Because of the large population there are a lot of different ethnic groups where there are 83.5% white and 12.4% black as well as there are 3.3% Asians and the rest 0.8% are Amerindian.

As a result of the different nationalities the US has different t spoken languages but the most common are English and Spanish. Because of the different job offers and freedom of all nationalities in the US a lot of migrants come to the US about 3.5 migrants which make about 1000 of the population.

One of the advantages of the US is that it has a large number of people that can read and write and that makes up about 97% of the population which is a very large amount and gives a great benefit to the country. The US takes good care of its citizens where it spends 1.5 trillion dollars yearly on health care which decreases the amount of sicknesses but still one of the weaknesses of the US is the amount of people with AIDS which is 850,000 people living with AIDS and 20000 people that died because of AIDS.

Talking the different religions and nationalities in the United States there quite an advantage in that where all of them get along and one of the good things in the United States is that it gives minorities a right. But after the tragic incidents of September 11th there have been some problems with Muslim and Arab citizens being abused.

The United States has strong defense and military where 276 billion dollars is spent on the military yearly and there are 77, 856,486 men from age 15- 49 working in the military. The defense in the US is the strongest in the world and a lot of countries in the world depend on the protection of the US such as Canada who has not a very strong defense and depends on the US for protection as well as Japan and Kuwait and Mexico as well as a number of other countries.

The defense in the US is composed of different sections which are the department of the army, Department of the Navy (includes Marine Corporations) and the Department of the Air Force. The common age in which men are asked to the army is 18 years as well as young woman who want to join the military are allowed to do that but it is not required as it is to men.

We talk about the US defense and military we are talking about the world’s largest defense with has the most present and best weapons in the world where it has air planes and nuclear weapons and many others which matches the amount that is being spent on it which is 28% of the united states budget which is a process named as Star Wars. The United States as I mentioned that United States has the world’s largest supply of weapons where the United sated has 94,330 different kinds of missiles and 59,500 different guided bombs and 120 prowler aircraft as well as many more.

The United States which has a total area of 9,629,91 sq. km is located in North America bordering the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Pacific Ocean between Canada and Mexico. The three countries that border the US are Canada, Mexico, and Cuba where it has good relations with its neighbors and offers them its protection.

The United States is composed of a lot of different climates from the icy mountain tops in Alaska to the tropical weather in the islands of Hawaii. As well as the US shares with Canada one of the longest lakes in the world which is lake Missouri. As well as the US is the third largest country in the world after Russia and China. In addition the US’s climate had a big benefit which is that it is suitable for agriculture and which made a lot of people before the 20th century work on farming, and the United States climate would be rated average because it is not so cold and not too hot except for some states.

View on World Problems:

The United States which is the strongest country in the world usually takes a strong opinion and its opinion is considered important to the world today. Today it is taking a strong opinion towards terrorism where it is trying strongly to stop around the world. Examples of that is how it stopped terrorism in Afghanistan allowing woman to learn and go to schools and have the right to work and earn money equally like men. As well as it is trying to stop the tyranny Iraq where it is trying to remove Saddam Hussein the poverty he is causing to his people

The US also tries to stop poverty all around the world where American agents travel to poor African countries providing food and vaccines and educating their children. The US plays a great role in solving the world’s problems where its opinion plays a great role in solving many problems.

As well as the US has many friends it also has different relations with other countries such as China which was trying to gain the United States approval by fixing the relations with the US which increased after president Bush’s trip to China, but lately the relations have kind decreased after China’s claim that Taiwan is part of China while the United States thinks that China should earn their independence. Also Japan is also getting the United States protection so that it won’t get into a civil war with China, so the relations are quite good between Japan and the US. Also in president Bush’s last speech he thinks that Israeli should allow the Palestinians to go to work after they stopped them from doing that and the two nations should live peace. The United States also presents a strong friendship Europe where it has formed many organizations and the relationship is increasing in the last five years. Talking about the United States and Russia whom began as friends and then their relations were based on suspicion and hostility. But today after the Soviet Union the relations are getting better. As for the Arab world the United States stands a firm stand in front of terrorism but they support the peaceful Arab leaders that fight terrorism. To some of the poor Arab countries the United States is support and to the others it’s protection.

The US has one of the strongest economies in the world, its budget is 1.828 trillion while its expenditures are $1.703 trillion. The economy today is getting stronger after its shrink in the past months which quite amazing. The US has different sources of income and one of them is the market place where US business men enjoy the flexibility they have which is a lot more than their opponents in western Europe and Japan.

As for the United Stated exports which consist of their agricultural products and capital goods and industrial supplies and raw materials and consumer goods supply the US with a lot of money which is 776 billion and the US also has export partners who are Canada which receives 23% and Japan which receives 8 % and Mexico who gets 14% and the UK who gets 5% and China who gets 8% and Germany who gets 4%, but all this amounts are a lot less than the imports which is $1.223 trillion.

As for the amount of unemployment it is very small where it represents only 4% of the total population, but now with its rise in the economy the level of unemployment might decrease. All in all the US has a very strong economy where people from all around the world come to work. The United States economy is doing very well today after its slight drop after the incidents of September 11th, now it is increasing which might be of great benefit to the unemployed.

The national debt in the US is also very big where everyday it increases 1,111 billion dollars and today the national debt has reached $ 6,048, 292,702,027.87 billion so if we divide that by the population which is 287,153,211 citizens then each one shares about $21,062.95 which is a very large n umber, but actually it is a lot less than what it was before.

The United States started as a small colonial where European explorers came to see, after that it started to develop and grow from a small colonial to a country that earned its independence on the 4th of July 1776. The Europeans found America by accident calling it the New World. The first settlers on the land were the Native Americans who greeted the Europeans. The Native Americans spoke 300 to 350 unknown languages and they lived simple lives where woman farmed and men hunted, fished and became warriors at war. After that a lot of immigrants came to the United States from the African Slaves. In 1492 Columbus came to America thinking he had found a water stream to Asia. So the beginning of the United States history was complicated.

After that the Europeans used America for planting and a place to get metals using the Africans as slaves to work for them by planting and farming and doing hard physical work. After that many countries such as Spain and France and Netherlands made colonies in the United States all of them wanting to find gold. Many wars happened at that time between the Europeans and the Native Americans in the seventeenth century. During these wars the British gained all power in 1763. After that the British thought they should charge taxes on the Native Americans for bringing imports from Britain which caused the Boston Tea Party in 1773.

After that in 1789 the United States elected its first president George Washington who was a great beginning for the United States and a sign of democracy, and Today as we can see the United States is the most democratic country in the world.

In summer of 1914 World War I started with Germany, Hungary and Austria against Britain, France and Russia. At first the United States announced herself as in a neutral state, but then it changed its mind and became with Britain after both sides trying to have the US be on their side. In 1917 the US declared war on Germany after seeing that Germany was sinking American ships. Before the war ended in 1919 the American president elected peace which raised a lot of hopes and made America, France, Britain and Italy take their Versailles to Germany to perform the action of peace. Then they gave each nation a couple of countries such as Iraq, Syria and Palestine to France and Britain as temporary colonies and finally Germany’s colonies were taken away and it was blamed for most of the damages of war.

In 1941 many conflicts worsened between Europe and the United States supplied Britain with help to fight against Germany. During that time Japan was taking a lot of Asian colonies so the relations between Japan and the United States were a little off so on December 7th 1941 Japanese troops attacked Pearl Harbor on the Islands of Hawaii and during that time Hitler declared war on the United States. After that war the United States defense increased giving the United States a lot of Power.

At the end of World War II the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic emerged as the world’s strongest powers and both of them got involved in the Cold War because they had different opinions. The cold war was a West Eastern conflict and during that time there were real wars called "Proxy wars" because they were between the Soviet Union and the Third World. In the 1960’s and 1970’s the cold war went through a period of relaxation and in the 1980’s and the 1990’s it was the final phase in the cold war where president Mikhail Gorbachev and the President of the Russian Republic Boris Yeltsin and as well as President Bush that began a partnership between the countries.

In about 1961 the United States refused to accept the fact that the rich people of Cuba were having their properties confiscated by the government and most of them were Americans, so the United States of America trained the exiles on air force and gave them air crafts and they went to Cuba to bomb it, but they landed in a place called The Bay of Pigs where they were defeated by Castro’s army easily. After that Cuba went with closer relationships with the USSR and brought in missiles which contained nuclear weapons and could bomb different parts of the USA so the CIA refused the action of Cuba in interfering with the safety of the United States.

Policy Statements

1. Measures to insure the rights of minorities within a country:

Minorities are an ethnic, racial, religious, or other group having a distinctive presence within a society and in every part of the world we have different minorities and each minority should have rights like normal citizens and deserve to live. In the United States the population is very big and it is composed of different minorities all of them living some of their deserved rights, but there are also some rights that they don’t have such salaries in their jobs were they get less salaries than the majority even though they have the same education. Another thing that these minorities are suffering from is that they have to pay more money for their lawns and houses than the majority. So even most of the minorities’ rights are given to them in the United States, but still they deserve all their rights to be insured and live as easily as the majority of the country without facing any troubles or paying more than any other person or even getting fewer salaries with the same knowledge and education.

The United States respects human rights as well as it respects minorities and the evidence for that is how blacks are now treated like whites and different minorities are also treated the same, but the only the problem is some rights that haven’t yet been achieved and that should be achieved. Looking at the United States legal system we can presume that the United States always votes with human rights and in protection of human rights and that if shown in its actions as well as its policies such as the action it performed in Afghanistan in order to give them their rights. But the United States also admits of missing some of the rights of minorities and because of that the US. is searching for reliable solutions toward that issue.

2. The question of international terrorism

Terrorism, what is terrorism it is a word we hear everyday on the news on every channel, terrorism is death and killing people without an alibi. The United States government is and has always fought against terrorism. The United States policy today says that no deals are to be made with terrorists and they are all to be brought to justice for their crimes and also they are to isolate and apply pressure to any state that supports terrorism. Even though we see that a lot of the laws seem quite strong, but some of them aren’t sometimes that effective.

So we look at the strong policies of the United States toward terrorism, but still the world is filled with terrorists and an example of that are terrorist attacks on September 11th which increased the United States stand against terrorism around the world. And as said by Paul Pillar that terrorism cannot be defeated but it can be decreased and according to the United States policy it thinks that the only way to defeat terrorism is by destroying it. A few states are supporting this policy in the United States such as The United Kingdom and Canada and the European countries where they think that terrorism should be defeated and destroyed and support the United States in destroying terrorism world wide.

3. The question of peace and Palestine in the Middle East

The problem in Palestine has lasted a long time and a lot Also in president Bush’s last speech he thinks that Israeli should allow the Palestinians to go to work after they stopped them from doing that and the two nations should live peacefully which we can say is a hope, but what is happening in Palestine today cannot be stopped by words. The goal in everybody’s mind is peace but how can it be achieved.

In the United States point of view peace is the resolution, and it that it should be achieved by letting each of the two nations to give something such as for the Israelis to let the Palestinians return to their jobs and for the two nations to live in one ground which is a reliable resolution, but it can only be achieved if the nations sacrifice something. The United States today is supplying money to both nations but the answer of peace has not yet taken place. Today what is happening is that both nations are fighting for freedom and leaving peacefully and a lot of people are dying without achieving peace.

4. The Question of Drug Usage, drug trafficking, rehabilitation programs

Even though the United States is known as one of the drug consumers of the world it has a very strict policy towards illegal drugs since 1982 where it has been spending tens of billions of dollars to control the trafficking and use of illicit drugs as well as to support stricter drug enforcement. And by having stricter drug enforcement the United States can make drugs scarcer as well as more expensive and harder to buy. As well as the US. has a strong stand in front of the nations that are transporting drugs and are not trying to stop them such as Cuba and Mexico.

Drugs are a serious problem where many teenagers are dying from it and by standing a firm stand in order to stop drugs might help in reducing them, which is what the United States are doing now . Many other nations on the other hand such as Cuba depend on drugs for their economy for about 50% as well as it transfers it to other countries which is increasing the drug usage in the world. So the resolution its resolution is basically based on increasing the punishments on outsiders bringing drugs into the country which is basically military, as well as increasing the security and checks on the borders which are also military.

Opening Speech:

Greetings to all, welcome today to the where freedom is the air you breathe. Welcome to the land where buildings stand high reaching the clouds of victory, the land of George Washington, Ibrahim Lincoln and the greatest presidents of all time. Welcome all nations to the United States of America.

Terrorism killed thousands of people creating the most painful actions of all time. The United States itself has suffered from terrorism from the incident of September 11th. Different countries in the world are suffering from terrorism which keeps increasing day by day like an incurable virus.

Our issue of terrorism today reflects on a state that is being ruled by terrorist government and that has killed its own people. Even more it has been threatening its neighbors for many years and caused war against them taking away their people and locking them in prisons for 12 years with no word about them. Leaving a whole nation starve with a leader that has great castles and a quantity of money is what the United States calls terrorism.

The United States asks all the fellow delegates to vote for a resolution that will spread peace.
